Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin have officially announced that they have snapped up Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata, who is delighted to be making the move to Germany.

The Belgium international centre-back is out of contract at Celtic this summer and has been expected to move on.

Now Hertha Berlin have confirmed that Boyata will be turning out for them next season in the German top flight, with the player ending his association with Celtic.

Boyata insists he is excited to starting at Hertha Berlin and claims he was left impressed by the project sold to him by sporting director Michael Preetz.

"I am glad that the move to Berlin with Hertha BSC has worked out", he told the club's official site.

"The club is ambitious and has goals which I can get behind.

"In addition, I was very impressed by how Michael Preetz was in the talks with me and he showed me a clear plan.

"I am looking forward to the new season and I want to achieve a lot with the club!"

Boyata's departure from Celtic had long been expected, but the Bhoys will have to move to make sure they replace the centre-back in their squad for next season.

Celtic have yet to confirm who their permanent manager will be next term, with Neil Lennon in charge on an interim basis.
