Rangers striker Jermain Defoe believes the Gers can achieve something next season and insists he is eagerly looking forward to another year at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard’s men finished their Scottish Premiership campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday.

The Light Blues conceded a late winner from Eamonn Brophy, who scored from the penalty spot, after goals from Chris Burke and Alfredo Morelos set the game up for a close finish.

Despite their defeat, Rangers finished second in the Premiership and will now return to action in July for the Europa League qualifying rounds.

And Defoe, who will be at Rangers for another year on loan from Bournemouth, believes they can achieve something next season after their strong finish to the recently concluded league campaign.

The Englishman also insisted he is eagerly looking forward to next season, as he aims to enjoy a full year at Ibrox on his way to completing an 18-month loan spell in Glasgow.

“Of course, yes [I’m already looking forward to next season]”, Defoe told Rangers TV.

“More now, because the game the other day [against Celtic], I think in terms of that confidence, I think the group really believed, we think we can achieve something special.

“And I did say a few weeks ago that I’m looking forward to having like a full season to see what we can do and I’m looking forward to it.”

Rangers secured 78 points from 38 games in the Premiership this season.
