The clash at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium marks Klopp's third Champions League final appearance, having taken Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool there in the 2013 and 2018 editions, respectively.

Bayern Munich and Real Madrid got the better of his teams in his two previous attempts, and ahead of facing Spurs, Klopp has remained hopeful about ending the unwanted streak in his third.

Klopp was quoted as saying by Liverpool's official website: "In Germany, we have a saying: ‘All the best things come in threes

"At Mainz, I missed promotion twice and we got promoted in the third season.
