Former Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has revealed that Brentford manager Thomas Frank wants him to play a leadership role in the young squad at Griffin Park.

Leeds’ decision to sell the defender took many by surprise this summer and it shook more people when he was allowed to move to their fellow Championship outfit Brentford.

There were suggestions that Leeds were concerned about his attitude and Marcelo Bielsa was on board with the decision to let him go ahead of the start of the new season.

Jansson has always been clear about his ambition to play in the Premier League and he stressed that Brentford have convinced him that they are investing heavily to make sure they achieve promotion in the near future.

The Sweden international also spoke to Brentford boss Frank and admits that he wants the him to take up the role of a leader in his young squad at Griffin Park.

Jansson told Swedish daily Aftonbladet when asked why he chose Brentford: “I spoke to people in the management who have given a good impression of the club.

“The club are investing heavily and want to be in the Premier League.
