Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has reacted to his side being drawn against Manchester United in the EFL Cup after they thrashed Grimsby Town 7-1 at Stamford Bridge.

It took just four minutes for Chelsea to take the lead against the League Two outfit when Ross Barkley found a way through the Grimsby defence with a direct run and hit his shot into the near post.

Just three minutes later it was 2-0 to Chelsea, Michy Batshuayi getting on the scoresheet as he spun inside the penalty box and cracked a left-footed effort which rippled the back of the net.

Grimsby would not lie down though and pulled a goal back in the 19th minute through the experienced Matt Green.

Chelsea restored their two-goal advantage two minutes before half time though when they were awarded a penalty, from which winger Pedro made no mistake.

It was 4-1 to the Blues in the 56th minute as a set-piece whipped in by Reece James found Kurt Zouma, who turned it into the back of the net.

James then grabbed Chelsea's fifth of the night himself with a long-range curling effort.

As the clock ticked towards full time, Batshuayi popped up in the 86th minute to grab his second of the evening as he finished off a well-worked move.

There was still time for a final goal, with Callum Hudson-Odoi putting the finishing touches a minute from time.

Chelsea have been drawn against Manchester United, who edged out League One Rochdale on penalties, at home in the next round and Lampard has welcomed it, telling his post-match press conference: "A big draw, pleased we’re at home. We’ll see.

"We have to respect them, it’s going to be a tough game, you have to give Rochdale credit for taking them all the way."

Asked about Chelsea's display against Grimsby and whether it was the complete performance, he added: "Pleasing on lots of levels.

"Not complete, we gave some minutes to some others who haven’t played and some youngsters improved the team when they came on", Lampard said.
