Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin believes that the Toffees' weekend game against Manchester City is a chance for them to build on their midweek EFL Cup win and pick up momentum.

Everton, who have had a disappointing start to their campaign, currently sit fourteenth in the league table with just seven points, having won only two of their six league games so far; three of their last four league matches have ended in loses.

However, the Toffees managed to get back to winning ways by defeating Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, courtesy of a brace from Calvert-Lewin.

While Everton face a challenging game against Manchester City in the league this weekend, Calvert-Lewin believes it is a chance for Marco Silva's side to pick up momentum following the cup win.

The striker is hopeful that he can build on his own momentum too after having scored two goals during the week and revealed that he is looking forward to taking on the defending champions at Goodison Park.

Collectively, it’s a chance to pick up momentum”, Calvert-Lewin told Everton TV.

You have to try to take that from wins. Personally, I want to take momentum after scoring twice in the cup.

It will be a tough game on Saturday but that is what you expect [in the Premier League].

We all enjoy playing at Goodison Park and are looking forward to the game.

Calvert-Lewin has scored one goal from his five Premier League appearances this season and will be looking to add more to his tally if he is selected to face Manchester City on Saturday.
