Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has insisted that the Red Devils cannot afford to miss chances against Chelsea when they face the west London club in the next round of the EFL Cup.

Manchester United were given a scare on Wednesday night when Rochdale took them to penalties at Old Trafford after the 90 minutes ended at a 1-1 draw.

The home side eventually managed to progress in the competition on penalties, but the performance was poor and they missed a whole host of chances during the game.

Brown admits facing Chelsea is a brilliant tie and it is a massive game for Manchester United as they will want to go all the way in the EFL Cup this season.

The defender was not happy with the chances the home side missed against Rochdale and feels they will be punished if they do the same against Chelsea.

He also believes Chelsea have improved since Manchester United beat them at home on the first weekend of the season.

Brown said on MUTV after the game when asked about the Chelsea tie: “Would have loved it, if I was playing.

“It is a massive game for us as we want to stay in the competition and obviously Chelsea are going to be difficult.

“Tonight we did have the opportunities but when we are playing Chelsea, we will have to put a few of them away.”

He added: “It will be a completely different game.

“We beat them earlier in the league but Frank [Lampard] has got them playing better as they have played more games together.”

Manchester United will travel to Chelsea for the fourth round in the week commencing 28th October.
