West Ham United are anticipating heavy in interest in their 22-year-old French defender Issa Diop during the next summer transfer window.

The Hammers signed the defender from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 and he has been a major hit at the London Stadium since his arrival from France.

The 22-year-old centre-back was a target for Manchester United in the summer after just one season in English football and counts Jose Mourinho as one of his admirers.

West Ham are still not at the point where they have decided to cash in on the Frenchman based on his development.

But according to The Athletic, the West Ham recruitment department are expecting heavy interest in the defender next summer.

By then, he would have completed two seasons in the top flight of English football and would likely have enhanced his reputation further.

The Hammers are expecting some of the bigger clubs in England and in Europe to take note of his development at the end of the season.

It remains to be seen at what price the club would agree to sell him next year after they rejected overtures from Manchester United in the summer.
