Former Manchester United reserves coach Warren Joyce has conceded that Paul Pogba was not happy about leaving the club when he departed Old Trafford for Juventus in 2012.

Pogba left for Juventus after making a name for himself in the Manchester United academy and spent four years in Turin before returning to the club in the summer of 2016.

There was massive controversy around the Frenchman’s departure from Old Trafford in 2012 and agent Mino Raiola’s role in taking him to Juventus was much talked about.

But Joyce insisted Pogba personally was desperate to make it Old Trafford and was not happy when he had to leave the club in the first instance as he wanted to succeed at Manchester United.

The former reserves coach pointed out that the midfielder continued to give his all for the reserves until the end, even when it was certain that he would be leaving.

“He was a tremendous guy, desperate to play for Manchester United”, Joyce told The Athletic.

“I know how upset he was at the end at leaving. He made sure he played in the Manchester Senior Cup final in May.

“He was still playing for us before he left that summer.

“I would have conversations with him about being a Manchester United player, but more than that he wanted to be one of the world’s best, right back then.”

There is fresh speculation surrounding Pogba with claims in some quarters that he could consider leaving Manchester United again next summer.
