Rangers recently made an enquiry about France international striker Olivier Giroud, but are claimed to have little chance of signing the Chelsea man.

Giroud has continued to remain a bit-part player at Chelsea and has been linked with a move away from the club in next week's transfer window.

Inter are interested in signing him and the Frenchman would prefer a move to the San Siro, but he has also been attracting attention from France, with Lyon believed to be keen on him.

In a shock development, Rangers have also enquired about the possibility of signing him, with Steven Gerrard alive to what would be seen as a huge coup.

Rangers signing the 33-year-old would be head-turning, but according to French sports daily L’Equipe, the chances of the striker ending up at Ibrox are slim.

Giroud’s wages could be beyond the reach of the Scottish champions, while it is also unclear how much Chelsea would require in terms of a transfer fee.

The striker is also unlikely to consider a move north of the border with clubs in France and Italy interested in him.
