Liverpool are not interested in matching Bayern Munich’s asking price for midfielder Thiago Alcantara despite their interest in him, it has been claimed.

Thiago is set to leave Bayern Munich this summer and has refused to sign a new deal with the German champions.

With a year left on his current deal, Bayern Munich are prepared to let him go and his representatives have been fielding interest from several clubs in Europe.

A move to Manchester United has been mooted but there have been incessant rumours that he could be joining Premier League champions Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool are claimed to be interested, but according to German magazine Sport Bild, the Merseyside giants do not want to pay the asking price set by Bayern Munich.

The German champions want a fee of around €40m for Thiago but for the moment, Liverpool are in no mood to spend that kind of money on the player.

It has been claimed that the Reds are only keen on paying around half of the asking price demanded by Bayern Munich.

It remains to be seen whether Bayern Munich decide to stick to their asking price for Thiago and wait for other clubs to join the race in the coming weeks; they have until 5th October to sell him.
