Keisuke Honda has revealed he is flattered to have heard his name linked with the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, but will now focus on the task at hand with CSKA Moscow after a transfer to Lazio fell through.

The Japanese schemer was hoping to join Lazio in the winter transfer window, and the Serie A giants were keen on the playmaker, feeling a deal with the player’s current club CSKA Moscow was within reach.

But even after a week of talks, no common ground could be found and Honda remained in Russia as the European transfer window slammed shut.

And the former VVV-Venlo star has admitted that staying with the Army Men in the Russian Premier League was not exactly what he had hoped for.

"I waited for a bigger club in the last transfer window and I was hoping for a transfer to Lazio", said the midfielder.

"Now my focus however, is back on CSKA, but at the end of next year my contract ends."

Honda admits that he has heard his name regularly linked with some of the world’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, something he finds an honour.

"I feel honoured to have my name associated with great clubs like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

"My goals have not changed and they will not do so."
