Liverpool could be ready to offer midfielder Josip Ilicic a route out of Palermo’s disappointing season, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Merseyside giants are known to have scouted the Slovenian schemer recently, taking in his performance as Palermo met Genoa in Serie A, along with that of Rossoblu defender Andreas Granqvist.

relatedNewsStoryThe Sweden stopper was quick to express how flattered he is at attracting the eyes of Liverpool and Ilicic is also likely to be similarly delighted the English giants are running the rule over him.

Ilicic has established himself as a key performer for Palermo, but has suffered, along with the rest of the team, this season.

Palermo have picked up just five points from seven Serie A games so far and sit only one place above the drop zone.

But rather than face a possible slog against relegation for much of the season, Ilicic may have the opportunity to swap Italy for England and Palermo for Liverpool in January when the transfer window swings open again.

The 24-year-old is however under contract with Palermo until 2016, placing the Italian outfit very much in the driving seat over his future.

Ilicic, who joined Palermo in 2010 from Maribor, has also been mooted as a target for Inter and Tottenham Hotspur.

He has picked up 20 caps for Slovenia.
