Christian Eriksen hopes last weekend's defeat can be put down to an off-day on Tottenham Hotspur's part, as the Dane continues his fine form under manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Both Eriksen and Spurs were brought down to earth from their early-season form, when West Ham pulled off a 3-0 win at White Hart Lane.

Still, Spurs have picked up points from five out of seven league games, and have been winners in the Europa League so far.

It is a comforting thought for Eriksen, who admits the physicality of the Premier League is a culture shock of sorts, something former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar had previously warned would happen.

"In some of the games it is more about power than technique", Eriksen was quoted by Danish outlet Bold as saying. "We should, of course, get used to it.

"Sunday was an off-day. People were a little tired after midweek. In England, it is highly crucial to score the first goal. We had real chances but did not do it."

Personally, Eriksen has begun life well at Spurs, making four starts since his arrival, and found the back of the net when they beat Tromso 3-0 in the Europa League.

Eriksen has given credit to his team-mates, though, adding: "It is a really good group.

"Things have gone reasonably easily and people have been helpful. And when the team's players are good, it makes things that much more easier."
