Former Liverpool first team coach Christian Damiano feels comparisons between Manchester United striker Anthony Martial and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry are premature because their career charts have not followed the same course.

While the goals have dried up in recent weeks, the French teenager made an immediate impact for Manchester United after his arrival at Old Trafford in September and was compared with Arsenal legend Henry.

Martial has garnered praise for his overall performances for Manchester United this season and has also managed to carve out a niche for himself in the French national squad.

But many still feel the Henry comparisons are a bit premature and former Liverpool coach Damiano belongs to that group of people who want everyone to take it easy with the striker.

He feels Martial and Henry’s career courses have followed a different path and the youngster still has a lot to prove for both club and country.

Damiano told France Football: “Martial came through very slowly into the Lyon and Monaco first teams.

“Let us say he has not gone through the same stages in his career and does not have the same experiences or the fundamentals, that served Henry for many years, yet.”

The 19-year-old has scored five goals in 16 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United this season.
