Lou Macari has indicated that Manchester United are under pressure to get away wins at Watford and Arsenal as he is not expecting Manchester City to drop too many points in the next week.

Manchester United slugged out a 1-0 win on Saturday despite not playing well against Brighton as Ashley Young’s deflected strike was good enough to get the three points for Jose Mourinho’s men.

They have cut down Manchester City’s lead to five points but the Citizens have the chance to restore the gap when they take on Huddersfield later today.

And Macari is not expecting Pep Guardiola’s men to drop too many points, which he believes puts extra pressure on Manchester United to have a perfect week following the win over Brighton.

He admits away trips to Watford and Arsenal are going to be tough, but conceded that Manchester United are under the cosh to get the maximum points.

Macari told MUTV: “Three wins in the next seven days is vital.

"When you are eight points behind, now five, then you can’t afford to drop too many points.

“We all take the view that they are not going to drop many.

"People are hoping that they drop a few at Huddersfield, but I don’t think they will drop too many from a possible nine.

“And we can’t afford to drop many either.”

Macari says he was happy the Red Devils ground out the win over Brighton, but is aware of two tricky games coming up.

“It was a win, wasn’t great or impressive but two tough games are coming up now and we have three points.

“Watford and Arsenal away are both away and they are going to be difficult.”
