Jose Mourinho has conceded that Manchester United did not deserve more than a point following their laboured performance against Wolves at Old Trafford in a 1-1 draw.

Wolves went toe-to-toe with Manchester United away from home and if not for two brilliant saves by David de Gea in the first quarter of the game, they could have easily taken the lead.

However, Manchester United finally got hold of the game and took the lead in the 20th minute when Paul Pogba’s delightful touch at the edge of the box found Fred, who found the bottom right-hand corner of Rui Patricio’s goal from outside the penalty area. It was the Brazilian’s first goal for the club since joining in the summer.

And it could have got better in the final seconds of the first half when Fred stuck a delightful free-kick but Patricio made a brilliant save to keep his side in the game.

Manchester United looked at ease at the start of the second half but were failing to create the clear-cut opportunities to kill the game off and they paid for it. Joao Moutinho found De Gea’s top right-hand corner with a delightful strike from the edge of the box to level things up at Old Trafford.

The home side applied immense pressure in the final 20 minutes and Patricio was again called into action when he had to keep out Marouane Fellaini’s header at the back-post. Adama Traore made some late darts on the counter for Wolves and had a couple of shots on target but De Gea was up to the task.

Despite pinning Wolves back for the last quarter of the game, Manchester United failed to create clear-cut opportunities and had to settle for a point at home.

Mourinho has no complaints about the result and admits that his Manchester United side were lackadaisical with their performance.

He also admits that his attacking players did not do enough and lacked dynamism, creativity and pointed out that Wolves never looked too uncomfortable despite all the pressure in the last 20 minutes.

The Manchester United manager told the BBC: "I think the result is fair. They deserved their point and we deserve the punishment of only getting one point.

"They started better, were more aggressive, had more intent and I don't know why, but they were more motivated.

"I was expecting more from my attacking players. There was not enough creativity, movement or dynamism.

"We made it quite easy for them to cope with our supremacy in last 20 minutes. Overall we don't deserve more than this.”

And Mourinho also questioned the mental approach his players adopted.

"Our performance was not consistent, not creative and not dynamic.

"The way we started we were lucky to be the first team to score. From a metal point of view, their approach was more for a football match than ours."
