Chris Sutton has urged Celtic to get the cheque book out after they went down to a 2-0 defeat away at Hibernian.

Brendan Rodgers shuffled his pack at Easter Road, but Celtic still started the game as firm favourites to take all three points and return to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

But they had the worst possible start as Vyniktas Slivka scored after just 46 seconds of action and an expected second half comeback failed to materialise as Florian Kamberi grabbed Hibs' second in the 59th minute.

It finished 2-0 and if Rangers beat Hamilton later today, Celtic will finish the weekend in third.

Sutton thinks that Celtic now need urgent surgery in the quickly approaching January transfer window.

He remarked on Twitter: "Too many passengers in this Celtic team… biggest January in Brendan’s reign.."

And then the Celtic legend added: "Well done to Hibs and Neil Lennon.

"Brendan has to take responsibility for the formation change… truth is the bench was bare.

"[Odsonne] Edouard the only fit striker getting hooked tells you where he is at and Scott Sinclair miles off again… cheque book January required…"

Celtic will not have to wait too long for a chance to bounce back however as they are set to entertain Motherwell on Wednesday night, before another home game, with Dundee the visitors.
