Ajax have failed with an offer for Newcastle United and West Ham target Dorukhan Tokoz.

The Besiktas midfielder is a man in demand this summer, with clubs having noted his rapid development for the Black Eagles over the last 12 months.

He has been linked with Newcastle and West Ham from the Premier League, while there is also interest from Italy's Serie A.

Ajax were keen to beat the competition for Dorukhan though and, according to Turkish daily Sabah, slapped in an offer of €7m to take him to Amsterdam.

But Besiktas officials wasted little time in rejecting the offer for the midfielder, which they feel significantly undervalues him.

Ajax's proposal is claimed to have come in at the €7m mark and would have been paid over six instalments.

Besiktas though value Dorukhan in the €15m to €20m range and feel under no pressure to cash in on him this summer.

It remains to be seen if Ajax return with an improved proposal, but Besiktas' rejection of the €7m proposal will prove as an indicator to other clubs interested in Dorukhan over what the Turkish club view as acceptable.
