Former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has emerged as a front-runner for Newcastle United Under-23 job, according to the Chronicle

Current Under-23 coach Ben Dawson is expected to be rewarded for a successful campaign with the reserves.

Dawson is likely to move up the Academy coaching ladder and take a technical role for the 2019/20 season.

And Redfearn, who acted as Leeds' academy supremo and then head coach between 2009 and 2015, is in pole position to fill in for Dawson.

After his stint with at Elland Road, Redfearn went on to manage Rotherham United as well as the women's teams at Doncaster and Liverpool.

He also had a brief stint as Dawson's assistant at Newcastle last season.

Redfearn has plenty of experience and could be the man the Magpies need to lead the club's reserve team forward.
