Rangers have been left impressed by Sporting Lisbon's Umaro Balde following a trial at the Hummel Training Centre and are now set to sign the youngster, according to the Evening Times.

The highly-rated defensive midfielder made an impression on the Gers' academy staff during a trial in Glasgow.

Having risen through Sporting Lisbon's famed youth system, Balde is now determined to further his development at the Hummel Training Centre.

And the Bissau-born player is set to join the Light Blues on a two-year contract.

The Ibrox outfit will not have to pay a fee to land Balde.

Manager Steven Gerrard has handed opportunities to many of his young talents throughout the 2018/19 campaign, and the trend is expected to continue next season.

Balde will be hoping to do all he can to catch Gerrard's eye and earn a first team chance.

And if the deal does go through in the coming days, all eyes will be on whether Gerrard involves the midfielder in Rangers' pre-season training camp next month, or he starts life with the Under-20s.
