Mauricio Pochettino has conceded that his Tottenham Hotspur side will need some time to work their way out of their poor run of form.

Tottenham crashed out of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night when they suffered a shock defeat against League Two outfit Colchester United on penalties.

The north London side’s poor start to the season continued as Pochettino searched for answers after watching his side unable to break down a League Two defence.

Tottenham have won just four of their last 17 games in all competitions and they have not a won a league game away from home since January.

Pochettino is keen to see his side return to winning ways when they host Southampton at home and believes some of their recent defeats were games where the result was determined by marginal decisions.

However, he did concede that his side are going through a bad patch and admits that they will need time to find solutions, which will  allow them to return to good form.

Pochettino said in a press conference: “Saturday is about a win, to perform well.

“Against Leicester [it] was a good performance but the line is so thin, with the VAR goal disallowed it should be 2-0 and game over, but we lose the game.

“We are in a period where it’s a bit tough for us but we are working to find a solution.

“When this type of thing happens it's about staying clear and fresh and calm.

"We're trying to find solutions and we only need time.”

Ahead of Saturday’s league game, Tottenham are seventh in the league table on eight points from the opening six games.
