Former Feyenoord star Dirk Kuyt has insisted that Arne Slot is his own man and has his own unique style of football that is different to Jurgen Klopp’s.

Slot made it clear on Thursday that he wants to join Liverpool and is waiting for Feyenoord to agree compensation with the Reds.

Liverpool have decided to pursue the Dutchman following a process where they looked at several candidates, including Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim.

Kuyt, who played for both Liverpool and Feyenoord, has seen Slot at close quarters, including spending a week shadowing the Dutchman behind the scenes.

The former forward insisted that the Feyenoord boss’ style is unlike any other manager and he has a unique vision for his teams.

He stressed that Slot’s tactics are different from other elite managers and while some of the principles are similar to Klopp’s, the style of football is dissimilar to the current Reds manager.

Kuyt wrote in a column for The Athletic: “Tactically, he’s very strong. What people like most in Holland, where his reputation is so high, is that he has his own vision, his style of play.

“Nowadays managers always get compared. Is it the Jurgen Klopp style? Is it the Jose Mourinho style? Is it the Pep Guardiola style?

“The answer is that Slot has his own style.

“He doesn’t copy anyone. He knows exactly what he wants and he believes in it.

“It’s attractive, attacking football.

“He likes to play an aggressive defence, high intensity, with the game played in the opponent’s half, but it’s his way.

“It’s different from Klopp but a lot of the principles are the same.”

Feyenoord will be looking to make sure Liverpool meet their compensation terms for Slot and his assistants before they agree to a deal with the Reds.
