Newcastle United directors do not believe that a season out of Europe to focus completely on the Premier League would be the best thing for the club, according to the Chronicle.

Eddie Howe’s side had Champions League football on the menu this term, but they are in a fight simply to be in Europe next season at the moment.

The Magpies sit in sixth spot in the Premier League, inside a Europa Conference League place, but Chelsea and Manchester United are just two points behind.

There is a school of thought amongst some Newcastle fans that missing out on Europe would be preferable to qualifying as it would let Howe’s side focus on the Premier League.

That view is not shared by directors at Newcastle however.

Despite the money on offer being substantially less than the Champions League, the Europa League or Europa Conference League could still hand the club a financial boost.

Extra cash would allow Newcastle to continue to invest in players and be further evidence that they are still moving forward.

If Newcastle could get into a Europa League spot, it would also hand them with another avenue to reach the Champions League next season.
