West Brom legend Ally Robertson has insisted the main thing for the Baggies in their playoff meeting with Southampton is not to lose the first leg.

Carlos Corberan’s men are due to lock horns with Southampton over two legs for the right to advance to the playoff final at Wembley and play for promotion to the Premier League.

Saints are fancied by many to go all the way given the strength in depth in their squad, but Robertson is looking for West Brom to cause an upset.

While Robertson would like a first leg win for the Baggies at the Hawthorns, he insists the most important thing is for Corberan’s side not to be beaten.

“We have that home advantage first, where we have been stronger, so let’s try to win that match and take whatever we can down to St Mary’s”, Robertson wrote in his Express & Star column.

“Take a win down there and fight not to lose it.

“If we can come away from The Hawthorns without a defeat, then that is the main thing, I believe. As long as we are still in the clash.”

Saints ended a run of three straight defeats on the final day when they visited Leeds United and won 2-1 a Elland Road.
