Former Manchester United player Juan Sebastian Veron, has revealed he recently rejected an offer to join Manchester City. The Estudiantes captain explained he received a phone call from former team-mate and manager Roberto Mancini, but chose to honour his commitments with his current club.

I presented the offer to the directors of the club (Estudiantes) so they could consider it, maybe it appeals to them. For my part there isn’t much thinking to do, my (negative) answer was instantaneous," Veron said to radio station La Red. "It’s not possible at the moment and it’s not a question of money. My family and my affections are involved.”

Veron moved back to Argentina in 2006 after a loan spell at Inter Milan to see off the rest of his playing career where it began, at Estudiantes. He has since been in scintillating form for the Argentinean side, so much so that he has been named South America’s best footballer in the last two years.
