Philipp Degen’s time on Merseyside looks to be coming to an end as Liverpool move closer to loaning the speedy full back to Stuttgart. Degen, who has experience of the Bundesliga and remains well thought of in Germany, is open to the idea of a season-long loan with the 2006/07 champions.

Reports from Stuttgart suggest Degen will undergo a medical and ink a deal to enjoy Bundesliga football this season. However, French club Marseille are also tracking the Swiss star and could yet try and hijack the move.

Degen was told earlier this summer by new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson that his days at Anfield were numbered. The full back had wanted assurances that he would see more first team football under Hodgson than he did under former manager Rafael Benitez, but Hodgson suggested it would be better if Degen looked elsewhere.
