Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has denied that there has been any movement on a possible deal to take veteran midfielder Juninho to the Premier League side, but has not ruled out completing an audacious swoop for the 35-year-old.

The Brazilian, who Houllier worked with during his time in charge of Lyon, is currently playing for Qatari side Al-Gharafa, but has been linked with a six-month deal at Aston Villa. Houllier has already signed one old head on a similar deal, bringing 37-year-old Robert Pires to Villa Park.

Asked about Juninho and whether he had any news to report on a possible transfer, Houllier commented to Canal+ "It is not topical", before adding "for now".

It remains likely that Houllier would like to see the Brazilian schemer at Villa Park and if Juninho can be persuaded to enjoy one last hurrah in top flight European football, a move could well be on the cards.
