Bundesliga side Hannover have joined the race for Bolton Wanderers striker Johan Elmander. The Swedish hitman is proving an attractive target due to his contract with the Premier League side running out at the end of the season, meaning he can leave the Reebok Stadium on a free transfer.

Already a number of Italian clubs have taken a close look at the player, with Fiorentina, Roma, Lazio and even Inter Milan running the rule over the 29-year-old. Hannover however, are ready to battle for Elmander’s signature and believe he would be an excellent addition to their squad.

Enjoying an excellent season in the Bundesliga, Hannover, who currently sit fourth, are on course for European football next season and may even squeak a Champions League spot should their fine form continue. Thus there is a real need to add extra quality in time for the 2011/12 campaign.

Elmander cost Bolton £8.2M when he switched from Ligue 1 side Toulouse in 2008 and although initially taking his time to become accustomed to life in the English Premier League, is now a proven performer.
