Bayern Munich’s city rivals 1860 Munich are on the verge of bankruptcy and their situation looks dire.

Currently playing in the 2.Bundesliga, having been relegated from the top flight in 2004, the club have flirted with financial trouble before, but the numbers required to save the side on this occasion are huge.

1860 Munich need to find €3.5M just to complete the current season and then, should they manage to do that, must also produce a further €4.5M to prove they are stable enough to be granted a licence to compete next season.

"The situation is serious and I cannot promise that someone will arrive to save us", warned the club’s president Dieter Schneider.
