Alberto Aquilani’s agent has declared that his client will start next season at Liverpool following limited interest in acquiring his services.

The Italian midfielder spent last season on loan at Juventus, but the Bianconeri opted against making the move permanent, choosing to sign Andrea Pirlo when his contract expired at AC Milan.

Nevertheless, Aquilani performed well back in Serie A and there was much speculation that AC Milan would swoop for the former Roma man, while Fiorentina too have also been linked with a bid.

But Aquilani’s agent, Franco Zavaglia believes that the chances of his client leaving Liverpool this summer remain slim.

Asked how big the chance that Aquilani would head back to Serie A this season was, Zavaglia replied: "Slim. The opportunity for Alberto to return to the Italian league is very low at this time."

The agent also addressed talk that Aquilani was Milan’s mystery midfield target, with the Rossoneri known to want to add another player in the centre of the park before the season begins.

"I would say no [he won’t be the mystery player]. There’s been no negotiations about Aquilani landing in Milan."

And Zavaglia also rubbished suggestions that had appeared in the English media mooting a move to fellow Premier League side Sunderland.

"Right now, I think that next season Aquilani will wear the shirt of Liverpool."
