Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion could be set to go head to head for Inter’s defensive midfielder McDonald Mariga.

The 24-year-old can leave the Nerazzurri for the right price and reports from Italy suggest the Premier League duo are both very keen on the tough-tackling Kenyan.

Aston Villa were linked with Mariga under previous manager Gerard Houllier, but it now seems the midfielder has continued to interest the Midlands club even under new boss Alex McLeish.

Rivals West Brom though could rival Villa for Mariga.

Baggies’ boss Roy Hodgson enjoys excellent contacts within the Nerazzurri, having managed the club on two previous occasions.

Mariga moved to Inter in the January transfer window of 2010, but has found playing time difficult to come by.

Used to regular first team football at previous club Parma, the Kenyan is ready to make the move away from Gian Pier Gasperini’s side and a move to the Premier League would be welcome.
