Juventus could switch their attention to Chelsea defender Alex if they fail to snare Diego Lugano from Fenerbahce.

The Bianconeri have been negotiating hard for Uruguayan stopper Lugano, but need to see some progress soon or they may be forced to turn to other targets.

And next on the Italians’ list after the 30-year-old is Brazilian defender Alex.

It is thought the 29-year-old would be available from Chelsea for the right price, though Juventus will only try for the former PSV Eindhoven man if they cannot snap up Lugano.

Alex is under contract with Chelsea until 2013, but already attracted interest from Bayern Munich earlier this summer.

The Germans though opted for youth at the centre of their defence by signing Jerome Boateng from Manchester City.
