Arsenal have captured Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta from Everton and Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea.

The Gunners made their interest in Arteta known to Everton earlier this evening, but despite a fee quickly being agreed between the two clubs, the move broke down over the player’s personal terms.

However, Arteta resurrected the deal, telling Everton boss David Moyes that he wished to head to the Emirates to join Arsene Wenger’s men. And he has signed a four-year contract with the Gunners.

Arteta joined Everton in 2005 from Real Sociedad and soon established himself as one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old will be charged with replacing the departed Cesc Fabregas in the Gunners’ midfield.

Benayoun has arrived from Chelsea in search of first team football and expressed his delight at landing at the Emirates.
