Serie A side Lazio are plotting a raid on Swiss Super League side Basel for their talented winger Xherdan Shaqiri in the January transfer window.

Shaqiri had a host of offers to leave St. Jakob Park in the summer, but opted to stay put at Thorsten Fink’s side.

Lazio have continued to monitor the 19-year-old though and believe he may be more open to the thought of leaving Switzerland when 2012 dawns.

The Swiss champions have made a poor start to the current Super League season and have work to do to move towards the top of the table and catch high fliers FC Luzern.

Under contract with Basel until 2014, Shaqiri will cost Lazio a high price – the starlet is rated around the €12M mark – and the Serie A club will face opposition for his signature.

German Bundesliga duo Bayern Munich and Hamburg are keeping tabs on the player’s availability.
