Russian Premier League outfit CSKA Moscow are ready to offer Heurelho Gomes a way out of his Tottenham Hotspur isolation.
The Brazilian shot-stopper has slipped down the pecking order at White Hart Lane and now counts himself as third choice behind American Brad Friedel and Italian Carlo Cudicini.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has admitted that Gomes is keen to move to a club at which he can enjoy regular playing time and the former PSV Eindhoven man does not want to kick his heels in the stands at White Hart Lane.
"He’s not happy and he’s eyeing a January move", said Redknapp of Gomes.
"If the chance comes for him to play elsewhere I’m sure he’ll take it."
And Russian giants CSKA Moscow look to be preparing to offer the 30-year-old that chance.
CSKA have lost first choice goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev to a long term knee injury – he is expected to be sidelined for six months – making the signing of a top class replacement a priority.
Akinfeev suffered the blow in a Moscow derby against Spartak, with striker Welliton, involved in the incident, handed a six-game ban as a result.
Nevertheless, Gomes will want assurances that he is not swapping one bench for another as Akinfeev would be expected to resume regular shot-stopping duties once he has recovered.
Gomes though should receive the game time he craves if he agrees to swap London for the Russian capital and a chance to impress and make the number 1 jersey his own.
