English Premier League strugglers Bolton Wanderers are tracking Bordeaux striker Cheick Diabate and could well launch a swoop for the player in January.

Wanderers’ boss Owen Coyle has watched with dismay as his side have slumped to the bottom of the league this season with just three points from seven games and, if a swift bounce back in form is not undertaken soon, a relegation battle looks set to be the Trotters’ fate.

The club’s defence has been ripped apart time and time again, with Chelsea putting five past a hapless Bolton side at the weekend.

But it is not just the backline which holds concerns, but also Bolton’s attacking power.

And this has led the Trotters’ eyes to train in on Diabate.

The 23-year-old Mali international has been in fine form with Bordeaux thus far this season, scoring four times in his eight games and bagging one assist to boot.

Long regarded as having the potential to make a serious impact, Diabate has begun to attract scouts to the Stade Chaban Delmas.

Bolton would hope to move swiftly for Diabate once the window reopens, but Bordeaux continue to hold the whip hand, with the striker under contract to the Ligue 1 giants until 2015.
