Arsenal are preparing to make a splash in the January transfer window by snapping up midfielder Yann M’Vila from Rennes.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wanted M’Vila in the summer, but the protracted nature of the Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri transfer sagas saw a move launched too late, with Rennes unwilling to sell.

Wenger though is preparing to strike hard and fast when the winter window opens, by sending an offer of €25M to the Breton club.

M’Vila has long been admired by Arsenal, with the club’s scouts regularly keeping an eye on the player’s progress – and progress the 21-year-old has continued to make, appearing for France at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level, with a first senior cap picked up last year.

At club level too the midfielder’s ability has never been overlooked, with Rennes having signed their youth product to a contract running until 2015.

M’Vila also captained Rennes for the first time earlier this season, in the 1-1 draw with Nancy.

Wenger will need to wheel out all his powers of persuasion to convince the talent that it is wise to leave Rennes mid-season.

And the player has always been relaxed about his career, feeling that he cannot rush to the next level before he is ready.

"I want to play in the Champions League, it is my goal"
, said M’Vila in the summer, "but for now I think the best thing to do is to continue with Rennes."
