Arsenal have learned the amount they will have to pay to snap up Esteban Granero from Real Madrid in January – €9M.

The Gunners are leading a field which includes Roma and Malaga in the race to buy the Spanish midfielder, who looks all set to call it a day at the Bernabeu in 2012.

Granero has struggled to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s midfield plans at Los Blancos and with the likes of Nuri Sahin, Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Kaka, Mesut Ozil and Hamit Altintop all bidding for spots in the engine room, his future appears bleak.

The 24-year-old is not without his admirers however – and Arsene Wenger is one.

Granero is a highly accomplished player technically and very capable of picking a pass; qualities which would suit his absorption into Arsenal’s midfield.

Now that Real Madrid have let the figure they would find acceptable for Granero leak out, interested parties are sure to prepare their respective moves.

Real Madrid produced Granero before allowing him to leave the club. The midfielder was brought back in 2009 courtesy of a buy-back clause inserted in Granero’s Getafe contract for €4M.

Mourinho’s side now expect to realise a €5M profit on that figure.
