Real Madrid have been slammed for acting in an "arrogant" and "colonial" way in their pursuit of Santos striker Neymar.

The Spanish giants made Neymar a transfer priority in the summer, but failed to get their man as the youngster opted to remain in Brazil.

Despite this, Jose Mourinho’s side have continued to be linked with a new bid for the Brazilian, but recently Neymar put pen to paper on a contract extension at Santos, seemingly ruling out an imminent move to the Bernabeu.

And Real Madrid’s behaviour in the transfer chase has been criticised by Santos president Luis Alvaro Ribeiro.

"The behaviour of the board of Real Madrid was arrogant and regrettable"
, said the Santos supremo to O Estado de Sao Paulo.

"Their attitude was the colonial mentality.

"I convinced Neymar to stay by telling him that Jose Mourinho would require him to cut his hair", joked Ribeiro.

"Here he can do whatever he wants with his hair."

Neymar’s new contract at Santos runs until 2014.
