Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has admitted that there are funds available for him to use to add to his squad in the January transfer window – but stressed the media will not draw him into commenting on potential targets.

The Reds have returned to the ways of old since NESV took control of the club from the unpopular Tom Hicks and George Gillett and cards are played close to the chest at Anfield once again.

It is the way that Dalglish likes to get his business done and no speculation will be responded to, despite a flurry of media talk over potential transfer targets.

"We don’t speculate on anybody – either our own players or somebody else’s players", said Dalglish.

"It doesn’t matter what we say, there is going to be speculation in the newspapers, but we won’t be here to answer every question that’s in the newspapers.

"We’ll do our business the way we’ve been brought up to do our business, and that’s privately behind closed doors."

The Liverpool boss did admit that, should he want to bring in new blood, the funds are there for him to do so however.

"We have the option to add if we want to, but we also have another option that we don’t have to."
