Chelsea have been beaten by Napoli in the race for Chilean forward Eduardo Vargas.

The highly rated 22-year-old was wanted by the English Premier League outfit, while attention had also been drawn from Serie A side Inter – yet it is Napoli who have been confirmed as having secured Vargas’ signature.

Carlos Heller, the major shareholder in Universidad de Chile, the club Vargas currently turns out for, has revealed that Napoli will be the talent’s destination.

"They agreed very late last night", said Heller to Terra.

"Eduardo joins a team with a great trophy cabinet and beautiful history like Barcelona.

"For him and the national team it is extraordinary."

Napoli are thought to be paying $14.5M for Vargas, who will join officially on 1st January – the Chilean could now face Chelsea in the Champions League Round of 16.
