David Villa Faces Race to Recover for Euro 2012

Sunday, 18th December, 2011

David Villa is facing a race against time to be fit for Euro 2012.

The Barcelona striker broke his leg last week in the Catalans’ Club World Cup semi-final clash against Qatari outfit Al Saad.

His estimated recovery time is four to five months and the Spaniard is scheduled to go under the knife on Monday.

The timescale means Villa’s participation in next summer’s European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine is in doubt.

Barcelona have vowed to do all they can to help the 30-year-old’s recovery, while some team-mates still believe Villa could make an emotional return in the Champions League final.

And the Catalans’ desire for Villa to have that opportunity is set to drive them on towards the showpiece date next year.
