Manchester City could well get involved in a late transfer duel for Roma midfielder David Pizarro with Zenit St. Petersburg.

Sources in Italy have claimed that Citizens boss Roberto Mancini is a fan of the Chilean, whom he coached in his time as Inter manager, between 2005 and 2006, and is pondering adding him to his squad.

Pizarro has struggled for playing time under Luis Enrique at the Giallorossi this season and has been tipped to make a deadline day-beating switch away from the Italian capital.

Russian Premier League champions Zenit, coached by former Roma boss Luciano Spalletti, who himself signed Pizarro from Mancini’s Inter, have been making the running in the race for the 32-year-old.

And while it is still more likely that Pizarro will end up in Russia than Manchester, a late turnaround could yet see the pass-master land at Eastlands.

Pizarro has made just five starts in Serie A this season, featuring a further two times off the bench.

Coach Enrique has indicated that all offers for the player will be considered.
