Sources in Spain have confirmed that Real Madrid are making moves to sign Villarreal midfielder Borja Valero for the 2012/13 campaign.

Valero has impressed at Villarreal this season, his second campaign with the Yellow Submarine, despite the club being in the midst of a relegation battle brought about by the sale of a number of the side’s best players.

That trend shows no sign of ending, with Villarreal still looking to raise cash to address financial difficulties.

The 27-year-old is under contract with Villarreal until 2015, having at first signed for the side on loan in the 2010/11 season.

Valero had experienced a spell to forget with English side West Brom before joining Mallorca on loan, and from there it was on to the Yellow Submarine.

Real Madrid are thought to have begun the process of negotiating with Valero’s representatives, with some suggestions that terms have already been agreed.

And Los Blancos should have little difficulty coming to an agreement with cash-strapped Villarreal, with Valero considered a perfect midfield companion for Xabi Alonso.
