Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he will use the occasion of his side’s Europa League clash with Ajax to run the rule over Danish starlet Christian Eriksen.

Ferguson will have 180 minutes of football, the first 90 coming on Thursday, to get a closer look at the midfielder, who has built up an army of admiring scouts and is regularly linked with a move away from the Amsterdam ArenA.

"There’s a lot of attention on the young kid", acknowledged Ferguson to his club’s official site.

"We’ll see what he’s like and obviously everybody is going to be watching him."

The Scot also expressed his belief that Eriksen will have been taught the footballing essentials, as the Dutch giants are experts at bringing through talent.

"Ajax have always been capable of producing great players, that’s the great thing about that football club.

"When you think back over the years to the likes of Johan Cruyff and Ruud Krol, they were some players."
