Roma coach Luis Enrique has added his weight to those calls for Josep Guardiola to extend his stay at Barcelona into a fifth season.

Guardiola has adopted the practice of inking only one-year contracts at the Camp Nou and the time of the year where the Spaniard’s future is speculated about has arrived.

The former midfielder has not yet penned a new deal, though has received backing from both within and outside the club to do just that.

And now the coach’s personal friend and former colleague Luis Enrique, has joined the calls for him to stay.

"I hope as a friend of Guardiola and as a fan of Barcelona [that he stays]", said Enrique.

"He is smart and he has the Catalan mentality of Barca inside – but it’s up to him to decide."

Asked whether Guardiola could, at some stage, follow Enrique and coach in Serie A, the Spaniard was clear that he would be even better suited to the task than he himself is.

"He knows Italy well as a player through his spells with Brescia and Roma.

"And his Italian is even better than mine."
