Despite his side playing West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford in the Premier League today, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson made a quick dash across the English channel yesterday.

The legendary manager attended Lyon vs Lille, the day’s standout Ligue 1 clash, and instantly the speculation swirled over just who the Manchester United icon was desperate to see in action.

And two names stood out above all others – Lille forward Eden Hazard and Lyon shot-stopper Hugo Lloris.

Hazard is expected to leave Rudi Garcia’s French champions in the summer, with the English Premier League his preferred destination.

The Belgian has been heavily linked with both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, but Ferguson is well aware of his qualities and a late bid from the Red Devils for the 21-year-old would come as no surprise.

On Les Gones’ side, between the sticks Lloris has continued to excel and the goalkeeper has, at points over the last two years, been mooted as being a target for Ferguson’s English giants.

With Spanish shot-stopper David de Gea having struggled to get the grips with the Premier League, a swoop from Manchester United cannot be ruled out.

On the pitch, Lyon scored a valuable 2-1 win over Lille which all but ends the northern France side’s chances of retaining their Ligue 1 title.

Lyon meanwhile have revived their flagging hopes of making the Champions League through a top three finish, closing the gap with third-placed Lille to just four points.
