Marcus Berg has bemoaned a season on the sidelines at Bundesliga club Hamburg.

The 25-year-old Swede spent last season on loan at Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, but returned to Hamburg in time for the current campaign, which he feels has been a write-off.

Rothosen coach Thorsten Fink looks unconvinced by Berg’s qualities and consistently leaves the former Groningen forward out of his starting eleven.

This is having an impact on the Swedish star, who is more than disappointed with a wasted season.

"This season is rubbish", said Berg.

"I’m fit and ready to play. I work just as hard as the others in training.

"But I must accept that the coach almost never includes me in the squad."

Berg cost Hamburg €10M to sign from Groningen in 2009. He is expected to exit the Bundesliga side this summer.
