Inter president Massimo Moratti has sacked Claudio Ranieri as the club’s manager.

The former Roma boss had lifted the Nerazzurri upon his arrival, but was unable to maintain the consistency and Inter soon slipped back into poor form which effectively put a Champions League spot out of reach.

Ranieri had until recently received backing from Moratti to carry on until at least the end of the season, however the 2-0 weekend loss at Juventus proved the final straw.

Quickly installed as favourites to take the role on a permanent basis – Andrea Stramaccioni has been tasked with leading Inter until the end of the campaign – are Marcelo Bielsa and Andre Villas-Boas.

Villas-Boas has long been rated by Moratti due to his likeness to Inter legend Jose Mourinho, while Bielsa has impressed at Athletic Bilbao this season.

However, the Argentine is under contract with the Basque club, unlike Villas-Boas, who is a free agent following his sacking by Chelsea.
